NONPROFITS CAN BE BULLSH*T. THEY DON'T HAVE TO BE.
No Bullsh*t Nonprofit is a bold, refreshing approach to the nonprofit sector, cutting through the inefficiencies, inequities, and injustices that often plague traditional systems. It’s a resource hub and community for those tired of the outdated, toxic, or gatekeeping practices of the nonprofit industrial complex. Led by Lauren Burke, a seasoned nonprofit founder and advocate, NBSNP offers practical tools, resources, and training to empower grassroots organizations and system-impacted leaders.
With a focus on transparency, ethical practices, and equity, NBSNP delivers actionable, no-fluff guidance on everything from grant writing and hiring to measuring impact with community-centered values. Plus, we do it all with a mixture of merriment, mischief, and a whole lot of momentum—because challenging the status quo should be as energizing as it is effective. Whether you’re looking for hands-on courses, vetted resources, or a supportive community, NBSNP is here to help you treat people well while doing good.

A Quick FAQ
Who is behind NBSNP?
Oh just a little trouble maker named Lauren A. Burke. You can read more about her here.
Why is NBSNP needed?
The nonprofit industry as it stands today is fundamentally flawed. It often caters more to the interests of wealthy, predominantly white donors—many of whom enter the space for personal fulfillment rather than true systemic change. Existing regulations and bureaucratic demands do little to address actual needs, and the power dynamics at play often reinforce the very systems of oppression nonprofits claim to fight.
We’re here to disrupt that. NBSNP envisions a world where everyone, regardless of status or background, can benefit from the greater good. We’re tired of hearing nonprofits talk about their desire to “do better” without taking action. Instead, we show organizations how to walk the walk, providing accessible, real-world guidance to those who lack the time, resources, or academic credentials that many nonprofits expect.
Our resources cut through the red tape, offering straightforward advice and practical solutions for anyone wanting to create impact, even within today’s constraints. We believe that by thinking creatively and expansively about the world we want to create, we can empower people to make real change right now. No BS required.
Why isn't NBSNP a nonprofit itself? Aren't you anti-capitalist?
You bet we are! But here’s the thing: when you’re working within the Nonprofit Industrial Complex, it’s tough to fight it in a way that feels authentic, ethical, and sustainable for your own life. You constantly have to worry about upsetting funders, navigating board politics, and the potential repercussions for your staff if you step out of line and risk losing funding. That’s not how we roll.
So, we’ve decided that taking control of our own capital, rather than relying on wealthy donors (who often—but not always—benefit from the very systems of harm we’re working to upend), is the best way to carry out our mission. We aim to provide offerings that are free, low-cost, and on a sliding scale so that groups of all sizes can access the tools and services they need. For those with the means to invest in capacity-building, we also offer more in-depth services. Plus, we’re committed to providing free services through grassroots partnerships and local efforts.
The reality, though? Mama's gotta eat. (And feed her partner, two kids, a dog, and a cat.) While we’re constantly exploring alternative economic models, this is where we are for now. But hey, if you have a cool barter or new model to pitch, we’re all ears!
